Roy Clapp’s sympathetic drawings of his wife Jill have been reproduced from one of his drawing books, and express a remarkable range and subtlety of moods and facial expressions.

The artist Roy Clapp lived in Over Kellet, a small village on a low hill overlooking Morecambe Bay and, from some vantage points, the Lakeland fells. This book contains nearly all of one of Roy’s sketch books. It captures fleeting moments of his wife’s daily tasks, executed in the 20th century but evoking timeless crafts and skills.
